Kim Wilde's Close returns on vinyl for the first time in over 35 years, and this Demon Records reissue makes it worth the wait. Released as an eye-catching picture disc, this is Kim's sixth studio album, originally issued in June 1988 and one of the defining pop records of that era.
Close produced five UK Top 40 singles: "You Came" (No. 3 UK / No. 41 US), "Four Letter Word" (No. 6), "Never Trust A Stranger" (No. 7), "Hey Mister Heartache" (No. 31), and "Love In The Natural Way" (No. 32). Kim co-wrote eight of the album's ten original tracks, marking a significant step forward in her creative ownership as an artist.
Production was handled by Ricky Wilde alongside Tony Swain — whose '80s résumé includes Imagination's "Body Talk," Spandau Ballet's "True," Alison Moyet's "Love Resurrection," and Bananarama's "Cruel Summer." Junior Giscombe contributes backing vocals to "Hey Mister Heartache," and Bias Boshell (writer of Kiki Dee's "I've Got The Music In Me") adds keyboards to "Lucky Guy," a cover of the Todd Rundgren ballad.
The picture disc recreates the original Close artwork, photographed by Russell Young, the same lens behind the iconic imagery for George Michael's Faith and Enya's Watermark.
